Role Context

Join us as a Senior Software Engineer – UI Platform Lead in the cross Barclays Digital Platform (XDP) engineering team, which builds the shared technology layer behind Barclays digital experiences. We are building a UI platform that is AI-native by design, where components, tokens, and patterns are delivered through tooling and APIs, not just code. This role leads the team shaping how digital experiences are built and delivered across Barclays.

All colleagues will be expected to demonstrate the Barclays Values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence and Stewardship – our moral compass, helping us do what we believe is right. They will also be expected to demonstrate the Barclays Mindset – to Empower, Challenge and Drive – the operating manual for how we behave.

Essential Skills

  • React and TypeScript in a library or platform context (not just application code)
  • Design token architectures (DTCG, Style Dictionary, or similar) and the tooling that transforms tokens across platforms
  • Building integrations between a platform and external tools (design tools, code editors, CI pipelines)
  • Java and Spring for API services, or Node.js for tooling and build pipelines
  • Experience with generative or AI-assisted developer tools, whether building them or integrating them into a platform

Highly Valued Skills

  • Infrastructure-as-code, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipeline design for platform service
  • Building or running registries, artefact distribution, or developer tooling platforms
  • Familiarity with how mobile and native teams consume shared UI artefacts, and the constraints that come with supporting multiple platforms
  • JSON Schema, OpenAPI, or contract-first API design
  • Contributions to open-source projects, design systems, or technical standards
