Android Software Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an Android Software Engineer to help build the mobile experience of an AI-powered product designed to make everyday tasks easier and more efficient.

Our client is developing a proactive AI assistant that brings intelligence into conversations, planning, organisation and everyday workflows. The product is designed to handle complex, multi-step interactions while maintaining context and delivering reliable results in real-world situations.

As an Android Engineer, you'll play a key role in translating this experience into a fast, reliable and intuitive mobile application. AI is at the heart of the product, so this goes well beyond building a conventional mobile client — you'll be working on how AI interactions actually feel and perform on Android devices.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain a production-grade Android application using Kotlin
• Integrate AI-driven capabilities such as chat, vision, voice and recommendations through backend APIs
• Create mobile UX patterns specifically designed for AI interactions, including streaming responses, retries and handling partial results
• Improve application performance, memory consumption and responsiveness, particularly for AI-intensive workflows
• Implement analytics, logging and user feedback mechanisms to help evaluate and continuously improve the AI experience
• Work closely with backend and ML engineers to define and maintain effective API contracts and system behaviour
• Ensure the application remains stable, secure and scalable in a production environment

In this role, you'll help ensure that the Android application delivers a consistently strong experience in real-world usage. Success means: The application is stable, smooth and reliable; AI-powered interactions feel responsive and intuitive; Performance is continuously improved, with attention to latency, memory and CPU usage; Production issues are identified early through effective monitoring and logging; Problems are investigated systematically and resolved by addressing their underlying causes.

What we're looking for

• 3+ years of professional Android development experience with Kotlin
• Practical experience integrating AI capabilities, such as LLMs, computer vision or speech APIs
• Strong knowledge of asynchronous programming, particularly Coroutines and Flow
• Experience working with REST or gRPC APIs and structured data formats
• Strong debugging and performance-analysis skills
• The ability to work effectively with systems where latency, partial failures and non-deterministic behaviour are part of the challenge
• Experience with MLKit or lightweight on-device machine learning/inference
• Experience shipping production Android applications through the Google Play Store
