Tech Lead, Payments
This role provides a unique opportunity to lead the architecture and development of a cutting-edge payments platform at scale. As a hands-on technical expert, you will design and implement high-throughput, low-latency payment systems, integrating both traditional financial rails and blockchain-based flows. You will shape core distributed systems, define engineering standards, and guide other engineers through complex technical challenges. This position offers high ownership, fast-paced execution, and direct impact on global payment infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with product, compliance, and infrastructure teams while remaining deeply embedded in code, ensuring the platform is secure, reliable, and scalable.
Accountabilities:
- Architect and implement core payment services handling fiat and blockchain-based flows.
- Design greenfield distributed systems including ledgering, settlement orchestration, reconciliation, and partner integration.
- Build event-driven microservices using modern messaging systems and cloud-native patterns.
- Define service boundaries, data models, and integration contracts across synchronous and asynchronous systems.
- Establish engineering standards for performance, reliability, observability, and security within the Payments stack.
- Lead technical design reviews and mentor engineers on complex architectural decisions without formal people management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, enterprise-grade payment capabilities.
- Contribute directly to production code and take ownership of system performance in live environments.

Requirements:
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including high-availability, mission-critical financial or payment systems.
- Strong production experience in Go, with expertise in concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization.
- Proven experience designing distributed, event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka) and microservices-based systems.
- Experience integrating with payment rails (ACH, SEPA, card networks) and/or blockchain-based payment flows (wallets, custody, stablecoins).
- Strong understanding of cloud-native infrastructure (AWS and/or GCP), networking fundamentals, and containerized deployments.
- Experience building systems in regulated environments with security, auditability, and compliance requirements incorporated into system design.
- Preferred: experience with Ethereum or smart contract platforms, internal ledgering systems, or real-time reconciliation engines.
