The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Senior (NodeJS) Backend Engineer to design and deliver scalable systems that power the UserTesting platform. You’ll shape architecture, write clean, well-tested code, and mentor others while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions. You’ll join a mission-driven, agile engineering team that is distributed, collaborative, and focused on building reliable, performant systems with modern tools and practices. This role is ideal for someone passionate about modern engineering, cloud infrastructure, and creating technology with purpose.
What you'll do:
- Design and build scalable, maintainable backend systems and APIs.
- Write clean, production-ready code with strong testing and documentation.
- Lead technical decisions and mentor junior engineers on best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate requirements into reliable solutions.
- Ensure performance, reliability, and observability of backend services.
- Participate in code reviews and promote engineering excellence.
- Document system designs and communicate technical decisions clearly.

What We’re Looking For:
- Extensive experience in backend software development.
- Proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js, with experience using gRPC, Kafka, PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices, and serverless architectures.
- Strong skills in building and maintaining RESTful APIs and integrations.
- Commitment to testing, observability, and performance.
- Clear, concise technical communication and documentation abilities.
- A collaborative mindset with experience mentoring or leading peers.
- Bonus: Python proficiency.
