Sauce Labs is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead, empower, and support engineering teams working on our Identity and Access Management platform, Billing, and Sauce Connect. If you consider yourself a thoughtful, kind, and supportive person, this might be a good fit for you. You must be eager to learn, enjoy exploring, and work closely with a team.
You'll be managing cross-functional engineering teams (up to 10 engineers) with a focus on building and enhancing these critical platform components. You'll collaborate closely with the product team to align on priorities and expectations, while maintaining transparent communication with all stakeholders.
Engineering management at Sauce is all about empowering people. You'll be responsible for helping engineers grow their careers, guiding them into the right challenges, and supporting their professional development. You'll also help teams improve their delivery processes and coordinate larger engineering projects. Experience in people management, improving agile SDLC processes, and project management is essential.
As an Engineering Manager, you don't need to be an expert in programming, networking, and identity and access management systems, but you should have a solid conceptual understanding of each area. This will allow you to actively participate in technical discussions, challenge decisions, and roll up your sleeves to help unblock your teams, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
People Leadership & Development: * Build strong relationships with individual engineers, providing regular feedback, mentorship, and support for their career growth. * Proactively identify and remove obstacles, ensuring your team has the resources and clarity needed to succeed. * Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture that encourages collaboration and continuous learning.
Process Improvement & Ownership: * Drive the success of your teams by continuously improving the efficiency and predictability of the development process. * Champion and implement agile and lean principles within your teams to optimize workflows and delivery. * Actively identify and resolve cross-team dependencies, ensuring smooth collaboration across engineering.
Technical Leadership & Hands-On Contribution: * Actively participate in technical design reviews, architectural discussions, and code reviews, providing constructive feedback and guiding sound engineering decisions. * Dive into technical challenges alongside your team, helping to troubleshoot complex issues, prototype solutions, or even contribute code when necessary to unblock critical paths or demonstrate best practices. * Provide strong conceptual and practical guidance to your teams in areas like programming, networking, and identity and access management. * Contribute to the strategic direction and architectural discussions related to your team's domains, ensuring alignment with overall platform goals.
Project Planning & Execution: * Plan, oversee, and drive the execution of complex engineering projects within the scope of your teams (Identity & Access Management, Billing, Sauce Connect). * Collaborate closely with Product Management to translate product roadmaps into actionable engineering plans and ensure alignment on priorities. * Maintain transparent communication on project status, risks, and timelines with all relevant stakeholders.
