The role of a Senior Design Manager at Canonical involves making open source software available to the world. Our Design function ensures the experience of the software and infrastructure we build is true to our intentions, delivering the tools our community and customers need. The Design Manager leads this effort through collaboration within and beyond our teams.
As a Senior Design Manager, you will manage design teams and coach designers in creating tools for developers and cloud engineers. You will ensure deadlines are met and communicate effectively with product and engineering stakeholders to drive quality improvements.
Leading the Infrastructure Design team, you will take responsibility for products that help build cloud experiences and software distribution mechanisms, evolving security in software packaging and delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Reviewing the work of your design team for quality
- Supporting individual designers' professional growth
- Improving operational workflows and collaboration with Web Engineering
- Defining and validating outcomes with stakeholders
- Evolving design systems and guidelines
- Coordinating with design leadership
- Engaging with the open source community
Requirements:
- A portfolio demonstrating outstanding quality in UX design
- Exceptional educational achievements in design or related fields
- Full lifecycle experience from user needs discovery to implementation
- Experience managing a team that interacts with technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with quantitative optimisation approaches
- A passion for balancing consistency and innovation
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year
