Our engineers develop the next-generation technologies in HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) that enable to transmit electricity over long distances and via submarine cables which provides access to electricity for billions of people around the globe. You will work in our global R&D organization on a specific development project critical to Hitachi Energy needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve.

The current technology has enabled the connection of renewable energy such as large offshore wind and remote solar generators to the grid and brings clean energy to large cities. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas to make the power grid greener and smarter as we continue to push the technology forward.

Our team is a part of Hitachi Energy Technology and Solutions Development in Krakow, Poland, and is responsible for the development of semiconductor based HVDC and SVC converter valves. At our site in Krakow, we employ more than 100 people working on converter development, electronics and control.

In this role, you get a broad network of contacts within Hitachi Energy's global organization and a good insight into how we work in different functions at Hitachi Energy. You will work in an inclusive environment with a team of competent, professional and friendly colleagues who will help you grow with the tasks.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Be part of the design process for our future HVDC converter cells and other power electronic sub-systems of our converter stations and take a leading role to take new ideas from idea generation through concept design, prototyping all the way to verification.
  • Participation in full design cycle of next generation HVDC control and protection system based on FPGA modules from world class vendors.
  • Scouting of applicable solutions based on project requirements, having real impact on requirements and final solution.
  • Development, simulation, and validation using VHDL + ModelSim + VUnit.
  • Contributing to continues integration process.
  • Prototyping and testing on real HW in modern laboratories.
  • Cooperation with international teams under Scrum methodology.

Your background:

  • At least Master degree in Electronics/Control Engineering or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience of FPGA/ASIC design & simulation in VHDL/(and/or Verilog).
  • Good understanding of synchronous design, time constraining and static timing analysis.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment, prototyping and testing.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices.
  • High level of self-motivation, curiosity, and desire to learn about modern technologies.
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach, and effective communication skills.
  • Experience in modelling in High Level Synthesis would be an advantage.
  • Experience in self-testing test-benches and regression tests would be an advantage.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
