Software Developer (R&D and Engineering)

For our research center in Kraków, Poland, we are looking for a Software Developer who will be working on creating, implementation and maintenance of the simulation tools and software platforms used by engineers for design and testing of the power distribution electrical devices. You will join a R&D team with a broad range of experience and competences. As part of our team, you will combine theory with practice, creating, testing, and validating new technologies to enable the energy transition.

• Prepare and design of new software based on external requests or your own propositions. 
• Development of software prototypes, proofs-of-concept (PoC), minimum viable products (MVPs) and full software applications.
• Maintenance of the existing software products, platforms and tools.
• Administration and maintenance of Linux servers and development environments (e.g. Jenkins, Docker, Azure).
• Being a part of the research team – proposing and contributing to research and development projects creating and deploying new simulation tools or software platforms for industrial engineers.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the-art software development technologies. Evaluation of new technologies, libraries, stacks as well as methodologies.
• Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy Research and Hitachi Energy business units to identify and solve real-world challenges for our customers.
• Network in the company and actively distribute your knowledge and expertise 
• Collaborate with local and global external partners including universities, open-source communities, startups and vendors.

• At least an MSc degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other relevant disciplines.
• Good work experience as a backend developer. Some experience in frontend is a plus. 
• Knowledge of the modern software stacks and languages – at least some of the: 
• Python – medium to high level
• .NET/C# – medium to high level
• Java/JS – beginner to medium level 
• Familiarity with development tools such as Jenkins or Azure DevOps
• At least medium-level skills in the administration of Windows and Linux system, including Shell/Batch scripting. 
• Ability to conduct all phases of a software project unassisted, but also to act as a member of a larger team with specific tasks.
• Creativity to find innovative solutions and desire to continuously improve yourself and the organization around you.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
