Senior Software Engineer (Engine Migration)

We are in a quest for safer online interactions, starting from identifying verification to fraud prevention and support for fair sports betting (preventing illegal gaming and ensuring compliance with the law).

As a Senior Software Engineer at the Core team, you will be working on support of a current highload application that supports 95% of operations inside GeoComply with a focus on new features and supports migration from monolithic to microservices architecture. The team is focused on a core back-end product. You will be working with a team of senior engineers to make changes to the current application and will have the ability to contribute your technical decisions to the new microservices project in Go that will gradually replace current systems written in PHP.

You will be expected to dive deep into the current application and its architecture, learn it in-depth, identify current problems, and figure out solutions to open-ended problems in a collaborative way, along with understanding the business landscape, implications and work around enabling business for future growth. You are welcome to work autonomously while maintaining leadership direction and company values (collaboration, innovation and agility).

• Understand the current monolith change processes, and implement features on this platform with the goal to have an understanding of current challenges, business value and development processes;
• Work on significant feature requests in a Core Product;
• Clarify business requirements and raise your suggestions or concerns working with QA and DevOps team on implementation details;
• Collaborate with other folks in Engineering to work on system design documents for new features or parts of the system;
• Participate in hiring and mentoring of team members; 
• Solve interesting technical challenges in a collaborative way, both for Core Product and migration to the microservices stage;  
• Keep and improve standards in Engineering, such as conducting reviews of pull requests by the team or suggesting new tools for the team to improve productivity;
• Actively participate in daily meetings and meeting with other stakeholders to discuss new services/features;
• Maintain responsibility for SLAs and monitoring of the features and services you contributed to.

Who You Are

• You have 4+ years of experience in Go or PHP;
• You are experienced with PHP or a similar OO language of choice;
• You have experience with relational and non-relational databases;
• You have a proven track record of successful project finish and support;
• You have worked with microservices;
• You speak English at the B2 level or higher.

Bonus Points

• You have a good understanding of networking communication for web-based applications;
• You have experience working with MongoDB, MySQL databases;
• You have an experience with JavaScript;
• You have experience with monitoring and profiling tools (DataDog, ELK, Xdebug, MySQL Percona Toolkit e.g.).
